London and Edinburgh put much of the United Kingdom within a day's drive, and that is where our private tours in the UK start. A driver-guide collects you from your hotel, the vehicle carries only your group, and the day bends to what you want to see.
In London, the private tour of central London runs four or eight hours past Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Parliament, the Tower of London and the British Museum, and the three-hour photography walk goes from Big Ben across Westminster Bridge to Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden. Out of the city, Windsor Castle is a six-hour trip with Eton and Runnymede, where Magna Carta was sealed. Stonehenge and Oxford pairs the stones with Christ Church College, entries included. Bath and the Cotswolds covers the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and the Royal Crescent, then the villages of Castle Combe and Bibury. Our guide to day trips from London compares them.
From Edinburgh, Loch Ness and the Highlands is a twelve-hour day north through Pitlochry and the Cairngorms to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, lunch at Fort Augustus, and home by Glencoe and across Rannoch Moor.

When to go to the UK
The climate is mild rather than hot: in July and August the mean daily temperature is around 19°C in London and 15°C in Edinburgh, and the advice is to pack for all weathers. Highland weather changes by the hour, so bring a waterproof whatever the forecast says. Midges are out in the Highlands from late May to early September, worst in July and August and on still, damp days, and Glencoe is a known hotspot; April to early May and mid-September onwards are quieter.
Summer is when Urquhart Castle tickets sell out, often far in advance. In Edinburgh the Festival Fringe runs every August, so book early if your dates fall then. In London the King's Guard changes at Buckingham Palace at 11:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the current calendar, but it can be changed or cancelled at short notice, especially in wet weather.
Good to know before you go
Most visitors need an ETA
Depending on nationality, most visitors to the UK need an Electronic Travel Authorisation or a visa, and every traveller needs their own, babies and children included. British and Irish passport holders do not. Apply on GOV.UK and avoid websites that imitate government services. Rules change, so check before you travel.
Book the entrances yourself
Stonehenge and Oxford is the only UK tour with its entries included. For the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Roman Baths, Windsor Castle and Urquhart Castle, buy tickets online before you come: it is cheaper, and Urquhart often sells out in summer.
Check the day of the week
Windsor Castle is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and, as a working palace, can close at short notice; St George's Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays. Westminster Abbey is open only for worship on Sundays. We check your date when you book.
Leave the suitcases in the car
The Tower of London has no bag storage and does not allow large bags or rolling luggage, the British Museum turns away wheeled cases of any size, and Stonehenge has no cloakroom. On a tour your luggage stays with the vehicle.

Questions about private tours in United Kingdom
How much does a private tour in the UK cost?
The price is for the whole group, not per person, and depends on how many of you travel and the vehicle that needs. Prices start from €169.90. On the London city tour it also covers the congestion charge, fuel and parking.
Where do the tours start?
In London and Edinburgh. We collect you from your hotel or any address in central London or Edinburgh. The London photography walk meets at Westminster, by Big Ben.
What is the best day trip from London?
For a half day, Windsor Castle. For prehistory and colleges, Stonehenge and Oxford, the only one with the entries included. For Georgian streets and English villages, Bath and the Cotswolds.
Can we combine two places in one day?
Yes. Windsor fits into a full day with Stonehenge or Oxford, and Stonehenge can replace one of the villages on the Bath day. Ask us and we price the version you want.
Can the Highlands tour start in Glasgow?
Yes, and Glencoe is closer from Glasgow. Message us with your dates.
Can we cancel?
Yes. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start, refunded in full.
