Our private tours in Peru start from three cities. In Lima you see the colonial centre and the San Francisco monastery, the adobe pyramid of Huaca Pucllana, the Larco Museum and the clifftops of Miraflores and Barranco, and go further out to the sanctuary of Pachacamac, the desert coast of the Paracas National Reserve, and Caral, a city of pyramids more than 5,000 years old.
Cusco is the base for the Inca sites: Qorikancha and Sacsayhuamán above the city, the Sacred Valley with Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero, the salt pans of Maras and the circular terraces of Moray, and Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). From Arequipa there is the white city itself, with the Santa Catalina monastery and the view of El Misti from Yanahuara, the countryside around the Sabandía mill, and a long day over the Andes to the Colca Canyon and the Cruz del Cóndor.
Every tour is private. The car and the driver are for your group only, from the pick-up at your hotel to the drop-off. The price covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and parking, and depends on how many of you travel, up to 16 people in two vans. Entrances and meals are paid on the day, and the order of the stops can change to suit you.

When to go to Peru
In the Andes the dry season runs from April to October: mostly sunny days, with nights close to 0 °C around Cusco. From November to March it rains, usually in the afternoon and at night. May to October is the season for Rainbow Mountain and the Maras salt pans; in the rainy months snow can hide the colours of Vinicunca and make the top harder to reach. Around Arequipa and the Colca, rain and snow fall from October to April.
Lima's coast works differently. In winter, from about June to October, it is often grey, damp and cool, with a fine drizzle called garúa, while the summer months are sunnier and less humid. On 24 June the Inti Raymi festival fills Cusco, and Arequipa's anniversary brings its biggest crowds of the year around 12 to 15 August. Tell us your date and we plan the order around it.
Good to know before you go
Take the altitude slowly
Cusco is at about 3,400 m, the top of Rainbow Mountain over 5,000 m, and the road to the Colca climbs to about 4,800 m. Altitude sickness can affect anyone, fit or not, usually 2 to 12 hours after arrival. Take the first days slowly, avoid alcohol for the first 48 hours, and leave the highest days for later in your stay.
The Cusco tourist ticket
The Boleto Turístico covers Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puka Pukara, Tambomachay, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray. Qorikancha, the Maras salt pans and Vinicunca are paid separately. Bring cash for the salt pans.
Machu Picchu is reached by train
No road goes to Machu Picchu. The train leaves from Ollantaytambo, and our Sacred Valley day can end at the station instead of in Cusco.
Rainbow Mountain is transport only
On the Vinicunca day your driver takes you to the trailhead and waits; there is no guide. The walk is about three hours there and back at over 5,000 m, and it is not for people with heart or breathing problems or for pregnant women.
