A guide to private tours in ManausThe city, the rivers, the forest.

What each one involves, what is included, and which to pick if you only have one day.

Manaus is the rubber-boom city on the Rio Negro, and the rainforest still reaches into it. Our five days cover the old centre, the boat out to where the rivers meet, two forest visits run by scientific institutions, and the waterfall country to the north.

One day only: Manaus in a Day, for the city and the Meeting of the Waters together. With children, or a free half day: MUSA and the Bosque da Ciência.

How to choose

You want the city

The Manaus city tour. Four hours, starting at 07:00 or 13:00: the Mercado Adolpho Lisboa on the waterfront, the Palácio Rio Negro, the Teatro Amazonas on its wave-patterned square, and the river beach at Ponta Negra. The theatre's guided visit is bought at the door, and your driver waits.

You want to see the rivers meet

The Meeting of the Waters. Five hours, starting at 07:00 or 13:00: the drive to the Porto da Ceasa, the boat out to where the dark Rio Negro and the sandy Solimões run side by side without mixing, then the river market. The boat is run by licensed operators and paid at the port; we can recommend one.

You have one day and want both

Manaus in a Day. Eight hours from 07:00: the market at its busiest, the Palácio Rio Negro and the Teatro Amazonas in the morning, the boat to the Meeting of the Waters at midday, a lunch of tambaqui or pirarucu, and Ponta Negra to finish.

You want the forest without leaving the city

MUSA and the Bosque da Ciência. Four hours: the 42-metre tower of the Museu da Amazônia above the forest canopy, then the manatees, giant otters and caimans of the INPA's Bosque da Ciência. Not on Mondays or Wednesdays, and the tower is a long staircase.

You want to swim

Presidente Figueiredo. Ten hours, about two hours each way up the BR-174: the Iracema, Onça and Pedra Furada waterfalls, with pools to swim in, and river fish for lunch in town. Bring swimwear, a towel, insect repellent and shoes you can get wet.

Four things worth knowing before you book

Boats and entrances are paid on the day

The price covers the private vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and parking. The boat to the Meeting of the Waters, the theatre's guided visit, the MUSA entrance, the waterfall fees, usually in cash, and meals are paid on the day. Entry to the Bosque da Ciência is free but has to be booked; we can do it for you.

Manaus runs an hour behind

Manaus is one hour behind Brasília and São Paulo. All the times on our Manaus tours are local Manaus time.

Private costs less than you think for a group

A coach seat is cheap for one person and stops being cheap at four. Our prices are by group size, not per seat: up to four of you share one car at one price, and the price only steps up when you need a van. And you are not waiting for forty strangers at every stop.

You can change your mind

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, refunded in full. If the date stops working, message us and we will do our best to move you to another day.
