Travel TipsHow to Book a Private Tour and Actually Save Money

Mar 20, 2025, 3 min read, by Exclusive World Tours

Private tours have a reputation for being expensive. For a couple, they usually are. For a family or a group of friends, the numbers change completely, because the price is for the whole vehicle, not for each person in it.

How private tour prices work

On a coach tour you pay per seat. On a private tour you pay for the vehicle and the driver-guide for the day, and that price depends on how big a vehicle your group needs. We price every tour in four group sizes:

  • 1 to 4 people: a sedan
  • 5 to 8 people: a van
  • 9 to 12 people: a van and a sedan
  • 13 to 16 people: two vans

The real numbers

Here is our Cliffs of Moher and Galway tour from Dublin, a twelve-and-a-half-hour day:

GroupVehicleTour pricePer person, full group
1 to 4Sedan€790€197.50 for 4
5 to 8Van€1,290€161.25 for 8
9 to 12Van + Sedan€2,080€173.33 for 12
13 to 162 Vans€2,580€161.25 for 16

The price per person drops as the group fills the vehicle. Four people in a sedan pay less each than two people in the same car, and eight people in a van pay less each than four.

Three ways to get the most from the price

Fill the vehicle

If you are travelling as five, ask whether a sixth friend or relative wants to join: the van price stays the same up to eight.

Get more into one day

Every tour is customisable. A private day can cover what would otherwise be two separate group excursions, and the entrance fees we include (like the Cliffs of Moher) are already in the price.

Book with the people running the tour

When you book with us you talk directly to the team that plans your day, so changes to the time, the stops or the pick-up are made by the same people who drive you.
