A guide to day trips from NatalSouth to Pipa, north to the dunes.

How long each one takes, what is not included, and which to pick if you only have one day.

Natal is long and thin, strung along the coast, with the beach at Ponta Negra at one end and the old fort at the mouth of the Potengi at the other. To the south are the cliffs and dolphins of Tabatinga and Pipa; to the north, across the bridge, the dunes of Genipabu and the windy village of São Miguel do Gostoso. Here is what each of our five involves.

One day out: Pipa, for the cliffs, the dolphin bay and the village. Less time in the car: the south coast, with everything within about 40 km of Natal.

How to choose

You have one day, and it has to count

Pipa. Ten hours: the view from the Chapadão over Praia do Amor, the walk at low tide to the Baía dos Golfinhos, where dolphins often swim close to the swimmers, the forest trails of the Santuário Ecológico, and lunch and free time in the village. Pipa is also a good place to stay a night; we can drop you and collect you another day.

You want short drives and long stops

The south coast. Eight hours, everything within about 40 km of Natal: the cashew tree at Pirangi that has spread over about 8,500 m², the dolphin lookout on the cliffs at Barra de Tabatinga, and a swim and lunch at the freshwater lagoon of Arituba.

You want the dunes

Genipabu and Maracajaú. Nine hours north across the Potengi: the golden dunes of Genipabu, reached by buggy with an accredited driver, the lagoon at Jacumã with its zip line, and Maracajaú, where boats go out to the reefs when the tide allows. The buggy and the boat are your choice.

You want a quiet village at the end of the road

São Miguel do Gostoso. Ten hours, about 100 km north and four hours on the road in total: the kite beach at Ponta do Santo Cristo, Praia de Tourinhos under its low cliffs, and fish and seafood in the village. Bring a hat that stays on.

You only have half a day

The Natal city tour. Four hours, south to north: Ponta Negra and the Morro do Careca, the Via Costeira, Ponta do Morcego, the Forte dos Reis Magos on the reef where Natal started, and over the Newton Navarro bridge to Redinha and back.

Four things worth knowing before you book

The tide decides some of it

The Baía dos Golfinhos in Pipa can only be reached at low tide, the dolphins at Tabatinga are most often seen then, and the Maracajaú reef trips depend on it. We check the tide table and set the order of the day around it.

Some things are paid on the day

The price covers the private vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Entrances to the fort, the cashew tree and the Santuário Ecológico, buggy rides, the zip line, boat trips and lunch are paid on the day.

Private costs less than you think for a group

A coach seat is cheap for one person and stops being cheap at four. Our prices are by group size, not per seat: up to four of you share one car at one price, and the price only steps up when you need a van. And you are not waiting for forty strangers at every stop.

You can change your mind

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, refunded in full. If the date stops working, message us and we will do our best to move you to another day.
