A guide to private tours from MendozaThree wine days, and the Andes.

How long each one takes, what is not included, and which to pick if you only have one day.

Mendoza is a city of shaded avenues and irrigation channels, with wine country starting twenty minutes away and Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas, up the road to Chile. We run three wine days, each in a different district, a day into the Andes and a short tour of the city. Here is what each involves.

One day for wine: Luján de Cuyo, twenty minutes from the city. One day for the mountains: Aconcagua and Puente del Inca. Two days: take one of each.

How to choose

You want a wine day without much driving

Luján de Cuyo. Eight hours from 07:00: breakfast in Chacras de Coria before the wineries open, two wineries of your choice among the Malbec vineyards, and a long lunch among the vines with the Andes in view. Three wineries fit if lunch is shorter.

You want the most dramatic vineyards

The Uco Valley. Nine hours, with about an hour and a half each way: two high-altitude bodegas at the foot of the Andes and lunch facing the mountains. The wineries take visitors by reservation only and the lunches fill up, so book as early as you can. Bring a warm layer: the valley is cooler than the city.

You only have half a day for wine

Maipú. Five hours, at 07:00 or 13:00, in the district closest to the city: a historic winery, an olive oil producer with a tasting of oils and olives, and the national museum of wine and the harvest festival.

You want the mountains

Aconcagua and Puente del Inca. Ten hours west on the road to Chile, most of it looking out of the window: the Potrerillos reservoir, the valley of Uspallata, the orange and yellow stone bridge of Puente del Inca, and the short trail to the Horcones lagoon with Aconcagua at the end of the valley. The tour turns back before the border. In winter snow can close the road, so we check conditions the day before.

You want to see the city

The city tour. Four hours, at 07:00 or 13:00: Plaza Independencia and the tiled Plaza España, the ruins left by the earthquake of 1861, Parque General San Martín and the monument to the Army of the Andes on Cerro de la Gloria. Good for an arrival day, or between wine tours.

Four things worth knowing before you book

Wineries are booked and paid separately

The price covers the private vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Winery visits, tastings, the park entrance at Aconcagua and lunch are paid on the day. Most wineries take visitors by reservation only: tell us which ones you want and we help you book.

Nobody in your group drives

With your own driver, nobody has to drive after the tastings or the lunch. Choose the wineries when you book, or let your driver suggest some.

Private costs less than you think for a group

A coach seat is cheap for one person and stops being cheap at four. Our prices are by group size, not per seat: up to four of you share one car at one price, and the price only steps up when you need a van. And you are not waiting for forty strangers at every stop.

You can change your mind

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, refunded in full. If the date stops working, message us and we will do our best to move you to another day.
