A guide to private tours from BarilocheThe lakes, near and far.

How long each one takes, what is not included, and which to pick if you only have one day.

Bariloche sits on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, with the classic drives and the cable cars close to town, and long roads north and south through lakes, forest and steppe. Here is what each of our five involves, and which to pick if you only have one day.

One day: Bariloche in a day, with the Circuito Chico, Cerro Otto and Cerro Catedral. A second day: the Seven Lakes Road to San Martín de los Andes.

How to choose

You have one day

Bariloche in a day. Eight hours from 07:00: the Centro Cívico, the Circuito Chico past the Llao Llao Hotel and the Punto Panorámico, Colonia Suiza, a cable car up Cerro Otto, lunch in town, then Cerro Catedral and Lago Gutiérrez. If the cloud is low, the lakes come first and the cable car later.

You only have half a day

The Circuito Chico. Four hours, at 07:00 or 13:00: the chairlift up Cerro Campanario for the view over the lakes and islands, the Llao Llao Hotel and the pier at Puerto Pañuelo, the wooden chapel of San Eduardo, the Punto Panorámico and Colonia Suiza.

You want the famous road

The Seven Lakes Road. Eleven hours, the longest day here, about 185 km each way on paved roads: coffee in Villa La Angostura, six lakes from Espejo to Machónico, and lunch on Lago Lácar in San Martín de los Andes. We can also leave you there and collect you another day.

You want a full loop

The Circuito Grande. Ten hours and about 240 km: the rock towers of Valle Encantado on the Limay river, the lake village of Villa Traful, the Correntoso and Espejo lakes, and Villa La Angostura. Part of the road is gravel; in bad weather we do the loop the other way or skip that section.

You want somewhere slower and more rural

El Bolsón and Lago Puelo. Ten hours, south on Route 40 past three lakes: the valley town of El Bolsón and its craft fair, then Lago Puelo in its national park. The fair runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, so come on one of those days if you can.

Four things worth knowing before you book

Lifts and parks are paid on the day

The price covers the private vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and parking. The Campanario chairlift, the Cerro Otto cable car, the lifts at Catedral, the Lago Puelo park entrance, boat trips and lunch are paid on the day.

Winter changes the roads

Snow and ice can close the Seven Lakes Road, and chains may be needed on the way to El Bolsón. We carry chains and check the roads the day before. Bring warm layers and a rain jacket.

Private costs less than you think for a group

A coach seat is cheap for one person and stops being cheap at four. Our prices are by group size, not per seat: up to four of you share one car at one price, and the price only steps up when you need a van. And you are not waiting for forty strangers at every stop.

You can change your mind

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, refunded in full. If the date stops working, message us and we will do our best to move you to another day.
